JJWC HOLDS TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) ON HOUSE PARENTING

The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) conducted the last batch of Training of Trainers (TOT) on House Parenting. Participants in this training were social workers, center heads, and allied professionals from different Bahay Pag-Asa (BPA) and Youth Care Facilities managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Non-government Organization (NGO) in Bicol Region on June 19 – 23, 2023 in Legazpi City.

The TOT is one of the components of the Project to Strengthen the Support Systems for Children in Residential Care Facilities and Communities. It started in March 2021 and will end in January 2024. It covers 11 regions, namely Regions I, II, III, CAR, IV-A, IV-B, V, VI, VII, VIII, and NCR. This is in partnership with DSWD, A Child’s Trust is Ours to Nurture (ACTION) Inc., and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

“JJWC is grateful to all our partners for sharing their resources and full support to promote juvenile justice and welfare, not only for the benefit of our duty-bearers, but consequently for every Filipino child whose best interest we continue to value, promote, and protect,” said Executive Director, Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco.

Among the topics that were discussed were: Background and Outline Framework of the Training on House Parenting, Use of the Program Guidebook, Underlying Learning Perspectives and Training Management Cycle, and Use of Module which includes Self-Awareness, Child’s Rights Perspective, Organizational Awareness, External Awareness, Custodial Care, Behavioral Management, Problem-Solving, Crisis Intervention, Safety and Security, and Record Keeping.

The last batch was participated by Haven for Women and Girls, Reception and Study Center for Children, BPA Child Justice and Welfare Center, BPA for Girls – Albay, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) BPA Camarines Norte, PSWDO BPA Albay, Daet Center for Children and Youth, Casa Miani Sorsogon, Tabaco City Youth Home, Ruel Foundation, Queen of Peace, and Calvary’s Legacy Home Legazpi Inc.

A total of 240 social workers, psychometricians, nurses, and other allied professionals in 125 residential care centers and facilities in the Bicol region were trained.“JJWC would also like to express our appreciation to all BPA social workers and house parents, local chief executives, and heads of local social welfare and development offices of participating local government units for participating in this project. Your exemplary participation and desire to enhance and strengthen the skills and technical knowledge of your officers and staff would ensure better services and assistance to our children,” said Atty.
