The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (JJWA) or Republic Act 9344 as amended marks its 15th anniversary with the theme, “JJWA: Patuloy sa Pagtataguyod sa Karapatan ng mga Bata sa Bagong Normal!”
“We at the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) are happy to celebrate the milestones on the implementation of the JJWA as amended. With this, we hope to increase the awareness of stakeholders, duty-bearers, and the public on the law and its implementation, particularly in this new normal,” said Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco, JJWC Executive Director.
To kick off the celebration, the Good Practice Participatory Video Documentation Contest for LGUs was launched on May 14, 2021 via JJWC’s Official Facebook Page and Website.
Moreover, there will be a Virtual Press Briefing on May 18 at 2:00 pm via Facebook Live at the JJWC Official Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/JJWCOfficial/). This activity aims to showcase the lined-up activities, the gains of the law, and the Council’s plan to ensure the law’s full implementation.
To guide the local government units (LGU) and duty-bearers in ensuring the implementation of the JJWA during the new normal and to contribute to ensuring the safety of children and the community relative to COVID-19, a Webinar on Diversion in the New Normal will be conducted on May 20 at 9:00 am. The webinar will also feature good practices of LGUs.
The JJWC will also be Launching the DSWD-JJWC-ACTION Project for children at risk (CAR) and children in conflict with the law (CICL) on May 27. It is a capacity-building project of A Child’s Trust ACTION, Inc. in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and JJWC entitled Project to Strengthen the Support Systems for Children in Residential Care Facilities and Communities in the 11 Regions in the Philippines.
The JJWC is also supporting the CINEMAHUSAY: The S.A.F.E. (Storytelling, Authoring, Filming, Editing) for Children Film Fest (private event) on May 29. The S.A.F.E. for Children is a project of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Philippines, in partnership with JJWC, Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), and the local government of Valenzuela City.
To cap off the celebration, JJWC will be awarding winners for the JJWC Participatory Videos for LGUs on June 15 at 10:00 am.
As the juvenile justice law marks its 15th year, JJWC will keep up with its commitment to promote and protect the rights of CAR and CICL especially during this new normal.
