CHILDREN’S PARTICIPATION EMPHASIZED IN THE 10th JJWEEK CELEBRATION

“Batang Handa at May Alam, Kaisa sa Pagharap sa Bagong Normal”.

This is the theme of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council’s (JJWC’s) 10th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week (JJWeek) celebration on November 21 – 27, 2021.

This year’s celebration aims to create and increase awareness on the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (JJWA) and its implementation in the context of the new normal among stakeholders, implementers, and the public; generate the participation of children and youth in the design and conduct of advocacy activities; and mainstream the advocacy on the full implementation of JJWA.

Among the activities for the week-long celebration are:

Virtual Press Briefing. This will be the kick-off activity on November 22, 2021, which aims to share the lined-up activities, accomplishments for the year, and programs and services provided by the Council Members to children at risk (CAR) and children in conflict with the law (CICL).

10th JJWeek Podcast Series. The podcast series entitled JJ Talks – JJWA in the New Normal which will air every Wednesday of November on the JJWC Facebook Page and YouTube Channel will talk about how the rights and welfare of children, especially CAR and CICL, are protected and promoted amidst the pandemic and new normal and activities and tips on how children and their families can adapt in the new normal.

Topics to be discussed are the Philippine National Police’s Child Protection Policy, Curfew,  and other Protocols in Handling Children during Community Quarantine and Parenting 101 Amidst the Pandemic, Coping with Anxiety-Provoking Pandemic, and JJWA Implementation Initiatives, and Programs and Services for CICL amidst the pandemic.

Tiktok Challenge. This is open to all Filipino youth ages 18 – 22 years old, regardless of sex or gender orientation. It aims to showcase the valuable recommendations from the Filipino youth sector on child protection, specifically in line with the proper handling of children relative to violations of local ordinances such as curfew during the community quarantine and new normal, through the creation of creative short-form mobile videos.

The theme of the challenge is #AngAmbagKo: Kabataan, Share Mo Ambag Mo sa Pagsugpo ng COVID-19!

Webinar for CICL under the Temporary Protective Custody of Bahay PagAsa on November 24, 2021. This aims to provide opportunities for CICL to participate in activities to gain new skills that they can use when they are reintegrated with their families and communities and express their views regarding their current situation. 

The 10th JJWeek will culminate with an online event on November 26, 2021 where JJWC will be launching the Search for the JJWA Good Practice on Diversion and award the winners of the Tiktok Challenge.For more information on the 10th JJWeek activities visit our website at www.jjwc.gov.ph or Facebook Page at @JJWCOfficial.
