18th JUVENILE JUSTICE LAW ANNIVERSARY EMPHASIZES HOPE FOR EVERY CHILD

In the 18th year since the enactment of Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, as amended on May 20, 2024, the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) emphasizes that there is hope for every child, including the children at risk (CAR) and children in conflict with the law (CICL).

With the anniversary’s theme of “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, BAWAT BATA MAY PAG-ASA. Sa Juvenile Justice Law, Bawat Bata may Pagkakataong Magbago!”, JJWC is one with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a “Bagong Pilipinas”.

“As the juvenile justice law marks its 18th year, JJWC commits to intensifying efforts for more inclusive policies, programs, and services for every CAR and CICL so they will have an opportunity to be the better version of themselves and be partners in nation-building,” said JJWC Executive Director, Atty. Tricia Clare A. Oco.

“We have confidence that if we – the family and community, duty-bearers, local government units, national government agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders – join forces in ensuring the full and effective implementation of the law, we can achieve a society where all children, including CAR and CICL, enjoy their rights and are protected under a restorative justice and welfare system,” Atty. Oco added.

This year’s celebration highlights the significant milestone of juvenile justice law for the past 18 years, the plans and support needed by the JJWC for the full and effective implementation of JJWA, the State of the Children’s Address (SOCA), and the Council’s Response to the SOCA.

Present at the event are lawmakers, local chief executives of Metro Manila, Department of Social Welfare and Development and its Attached Agencies which are the Council for the Welfare of Children, National Council on Disability Affairs and the National Authority for Child Care, JJWC Member Agencies, JJWC’s development partners, and JJWC National and Regional Secretariat.
